Two teams from SEGi College Penang’s Diploma in Information Technology students from SEGi College Penang brought home gold and silver medals, showcasing their ingenuity and commitment to sustainable development. Held on 5 August at Sultan Ibrahim Hall, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). UTHM, a public university in Batu Pahat, Johor, renowned for its focus on engineering and technology, hosted the competition that saw students and professionals alike vying for recognition.
The competition, themed “Renaissance of Innovation: Pioneering Sustainable Frontier,” challenged participants to demonstrate their innovative ideas. SEGi College Penang rose to the challenge, with their students demonstrating their ability to merge technological innovation with real-world solutions.
The gold medal was awarded to the team behind the Attendance and Door Detection (AND) System. This innovative project seamlessly integrates attendance tracking with door access control, offering a streamlined solution for workplaces.
Taking home the silver medal was the team responsible for the Buku KIA System (Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak). This project addresses the need for modernised maternal health record-keeping in Malaysia. By digitising the traditional ‘pink book’, the system streamlines data management and promotes efficient healthcare practices. This aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by improving healthcare outcomes and reducing paper consumption.
These achievements highlight SEGi College Penang’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability. The students’ success at IIICe 2024 not only reflects the quality of education at the institution but also their commitment to using technology for positive change.
This initiative also aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:
● SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
● SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
● SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
