Beyond the books: SEGi’s interactive IT activities spark brilliance

With the rise of digital distractions, keeping students engaged in the classroom is becoming an increasingly difficult challenge for educators. In response to this, SEGi organised fun interactive student activities on 11 April 2023 in an effort to bolster their students’ enthusiasm for learning.

These activities took the form of a class presentation for group coursework, and involved thirty-one students taking the Diploma in Information Technology and the subject Object Oriented Development. Working in ten groups of up to four, the students were given the task of designing and developing a prototype for a hotel reservation system, applying the concepts of object-oriented programming covered in the class.

To gather diverse perspectives and feedback on the students’ projects, a guest judge was invited to contribute to the evaluation of these presentations. The course lecturer, Rosmah, and the invited guest judge, Shahidh, provided valuable feedback, offering their unique perspectives, thus enriching the students learning experience.

At the end of the evaluation, the best presentation was awarded to Koay Ching Lin, Lee Zhong Yang, Oh Wei Yi, and Ong Kah Xuan.  Consolation prizes and tokens were given to all the other participants as a recognition of their efforts and accomplishments, a gesture intended to encourage and motivate them all to continue to strive for excellence.
