SEGi College Penang has clinched two prestigious medals at the International Innovation Festival 2024 (INNOFEST’24), showcasing its commitment to excellence in education and innovation. Hosted by Politeknik Sandakan Sabah, INNOFEST’24 aimed to provide a global platform for innovators and researchers to present their groundbreaking work. This year’s theme, “Innovation: Challenging Limits, Unlocking Possibilities,” attracted a diverse array of participants from various levels and countries, highlighting the event’s international appeal.
SEGi’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (FoEBEIT) shone brightly with the remarkable achievements of students Chia Teik Hua and Teoh Chin Yea. Their projects, which garnered silver and bronze medals respectively, underscore SEGi’s dedication to addressing global challenges through innovative solutions. Chia Teik Hua’s project, “Implementation and Optimization of a Self-Enrollment System (SES) in Tertiary Academic Education,” aims to revolutionise the enrollment process by enhancing user experience and improving administrative efficiency. This innovative system is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Teoh Chin Yea’s “Jobseeker AI System” leverages advanced artificial intelligence to streamline the job search process, matching job seekers with suitable opportunities based on their skills, experience, and preferences. This project directly supports SDG 8, which promotes sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. By addressing these critical areas, SEGi’s students are contributing to global efforts to create more efficient and inclusive systems.
INNOFEST’24, organised by Politeknik Negeri Samarinda (POLNES) in Indonesia, with co-organisers including Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik Dan Kolej Komuniti (JPPKK) in Malaysia, saw participation from numerous esteemed institutions. The event’s collaborative nature reflects the growing importance of cross-border cooperation in tackling global issues through innovation. The success of SEGi students at such a prestigious event is a testament to the institution’s focus on fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Statistics show that innovative educational technologies can significantly improve administrative efficiency and student satisfaction. For instance, a study by Educause Review found that institutions implementing advanced enrollment systems experienced a 25% increase in administrative efficiency and a 15% improvement in student satisfaction.
The impressive achievements of SEGi students at INNOFEST’24 not only highlight their individual talents but also reflect the institution’s commitment to nurturing innovative thinkers who are capable of addressing real-world challenges. By aligning their projects with the United Nations’ SDGs, SEGi is playing a vital role in promoting sustainable development and contributing to a better future for all.
