SEGi hosted a FREE Health Screening Event, offering essential medical check-ups to staff and students in collaboration with Mediklinik Rakyat HQ. Held on 19 February 2025 at SEGi Space, this initiative aimed to promote preventive healthcare and encourage early detection of potential health risks. With the growing importance of health awareness, the event provided access to blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, and pulse/blood oxygen assessments, ensuring the community stays proactive about their well-being.
Preventive healthcare is a global priority, with the World Health Organization (WHO) estimating that at least 80% of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes cases are preventable with early detection and lifestyle changes. The screenings offered at the event played a crucial role in educating participants about their health status and guiding them towards healthier lifestyle choices. A 2024 report from the Ministry of Health Malaysia revealed that one in five Malaysians has undiagnosed high blood pressure, making regular screenings vital for early intervention.
The overwhelming turnout at the event highlighted the increasing awareness of health risks and disease prevention. According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, one in three Malaysians is at risk of developing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) due to poor health management and lack of screenings. By providing free and accessible healthcare services, this initiative empowered students and staff to take control of their health while fostering a culture of well-being within the academic environment.
Beyond health screenings, the event served as a platform for education, encouraging participants to prioritise routine check-ups and adopt healthier habits. The collaboration with Mediklinik Rakyat HQ showcased the power of partnerships in addressing public health challenges, demonstrating how educational institutions and healthcare providers can work together to support community health initiatives. Research shows that such partnerships significantly increase preventive care participation rates, reducing the long-term burden on healthcare systems.
With an increasing focus on holistic student development, SEGi College Penang remains committed to creating a healthy and supportive learning environment. By organising initiatives that prioritise preventive healthcare, the institution ensures that both students and staff are equipped with the knowledge and resources to maintain long-term well-being. The success of this event paves the way for future health-focused collaborations, reinforcing the importance of accessible and proactive healthcare within educational spaces.
SEGi’s commitment to health awareness, education, and industry collaboration continues to drive impactful initiatives that extend beyond academics. By integrating preventive healthcare into campus life, this event served as a reminder that well-being is the foundation of success.
