SEGi College Penang’s students taking the Co-Curriculum Management subject under the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management had organised a charity-based event by visiting an animal shelter.
They visited the animal shelter on 12 October 2022 from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm. This event’s main objective was to find volunteers and donations for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
This is because organising an animal shelter is a very challenging community service because they need a large amount of money and manpower to handle all the necessary supplies and cleaning for the animals, especially food.
Furthermore, the purpose of an animal shelter is to protect abandoned and unwanted animals. Many animal shelters strongly encourage the public to help them by volunteering and strongly advise people not to buy pets but to adopt a dog or cat from an animal shelter. Therefore, to raise public awareness, our SEGi students initiated this event.
Our SEGi students visited SPCA and volunteered to clean up the animal shelter, and they also handed over the donation fund of RM365 to the SPCA management. This event taught our students how to organise a charity-based event, time management, social, communication, and leadership skills.
