SEGi College Penang made a significant impact on sustainability with the Sustainable Republic Event, held from 18 to 20 September 2024. This event aimed to inspire both the SEGi community and the wider public to embrace eco-friendly practices and take tangible steps towards environmental conservation. Bringing together students, staff, and vendors, the event focused on five key objectives: raising awareness about sustainability, promoting eco-friendly habits, showcasing innovations, encouraging community engagement, and inspiring action to reduce carbon footprints.
Participants were treated to a wide range of interactive activities, from club recruitment drives that built a strong community around shared environmental goals to the creative Doodle Wall, where individuals expressed their vision for a sustainable future. The event also highlighted the Grow a Better Community 2024 initiative, stressing the power of collective action. Talks and competitions on topics such as sustainable fashion and eco-conscious construction showcased the importance of sustainable living across various industries.
Competitions like the Sustainable Bridge Design Competition and the Eco Flavor of Malaysia cooking contest, which focused on sustainable food sourcing, encouraged creativity and innovation while driving home the message of sustainability. Local vendors such as KakiSwapz and Grow Market contributed by offering eco-friendly products, demonstrating practical ways attendees could make more sustainable choices in their daily lives.
The event concluded with a positive response from participants and showcased SEGi College Penang’s dedication to environmental sustainability. By integrating education, community engagement, and innovative solutions, SEGi demonstrated how collective action can create meaningful change. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
