ECCE Club committees organized a charity drive for St.Nicholas’ Home, Penang during COVID-19

During the COVID-19 pandemic hits our country many organizations and sectors are hardly hit in terms of businesses. During this period of Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed by our government have affected NGO as well.

St. Nicholas’s Home, Penang. St’ Nicholas is a non-profit organization and non-governmental charitable organization which aims to look after the blind and visual impaired (BVI) individuals in Malaysia.  They have reach out to the public for support and ECCE Club under the School of Education & Languages have taken the good cause to raised funds for the home. The cause is named as Fund Raising for St. Nicholas Home (Corporate Social Responsibility Project). Poster of the fund raising was further share through social media platform such as SEGi College Penang Facebook group and ECCE Club Facebook group. The event took place from 22nd April to 28th April.

On 21st April 2020, all the ECCE club committee members changed their Facebook profile picture at 8.00pm. The main purpose of this action is to let the public to aware about the event. The following day, the committees started to promote or event through posting the poster and the video at the social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Wechat.

SEGi staff, family members and public alike have started to donate based on their means. With such a feat of social distancing and MCO period in place students are doing all the meetings and arrangement to liaise with donors through the means of technology and social media platform. This is commendable that at such challenging times the ECCE students able to work through and raise some funds within 1 week time.

As such with a just a week of fund raising, the total amount raised through this event was RM5065. On 29th April 2020, ECCE treasurer had transferred all the funds to the St. Nicholas Home Penang. The St. Nicholas Home had posted a status on Facebook to thank our club by doing this fund raising event to help them.
