Students from the May 25 Educational Psychology class took part in a meaningful training and volunteer programme with Lions REACh between 25 June and 18 July 2025. The initiative combined classroom preparation with hands-on community engagement, offering students both theoretical insights and real-world experience.
The session began with a comprehensive training conducted by Ms. Jean Lee, an experienced staff member at Lions REACh. The training focused on understanding behaviours associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), equipping students with the knowledge and strategies needed to effectively support autistic children. Emphasis was placed on recognising atypical social behaviours and learning practical approaches to respond with empathy, patience, and competence.
Following the training, students participated in volunteer sessions where they had the opportunity to directly interact with autistic children. This experience not only deepened their understanding of psychological theories in practice but also helped them cultivate essential professional qualities such as empathy, adaptability, and respect for neurodiversity.
By combining structured training with active volunteering, the programme created a holistic learning environment where future psychology practitioners could bridge the gap between theory and practice. It also nurtured a sense of responsibility and compassion, encouraging students to make a positive difference in the community.
