They Came to Observe. They Left Inspired to Teach Differently.

In an effort to deepen the understanding of values-based education among future early childhood educators, SEGi led a transformative study tour to BXCL International School, Simpang Ampat. Organised for students pursuing the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), the visit focused on the integration of spiritual and moral values in early childhood pedagogy — an area gaining global importance in fostering holistic human development.

The tour provided participants with first-hand exposure to how moral storytelling, role-playing, and experiential teaching methods can be seamlessly woven into the curriculum. From observing classes to interacting with international school educators, the DECE students gained practical insights into nurturing empathy, respect, and responsibility in young learners — qualities that global education systems are increasingly prioritising. UNESCO, for instance, advocates that quality education must go beyond academic content and build character and citizenship.

DECE students were particularly inspired by how value-based learning shaped the school’s inclusive culture, where ethical conduct and emotional intelligence were not merely taught but lived daily. According to UNICEF, early childhood development forms the foundation of a child’s future, with investments in character education proving to reduce behavioural issues and improve long-term academic outcomes.

The half-day tour also included a hands-on workshop led by BXCL educators, demonstrating how spiritual and moral themes can be reinforced through community service projects and reflective learning. SEGi College Penang’s Students left feeling empowered to implement similar strategies in their future classrooms, affirming that moral education is not a luxury but a necessity for a peaceful, just, and inclusive society.

By instilling values from an early age, this initiative supports broader educational transformation aligned with global goals. With Malaysia’s preschool enrolment rate exceeding 85%, the potential for impact through value-driven educators is both timely and critical. This experience has enriched the future teachers’ toolkit — blending pedagogy with purpose.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
