This Is What Happens When You Let Students Lead With Heart

SEGi recently turned its campus into a hub of joy and connection with a two-day celebration of International Happiness Day, held on 20 and 21 March 2025. Organised by the SEGian Care Club and facilitated by licensed counsellor Jivanishenthiran Rajathurai, the event brought together over 30 participants in a heartwarming tribute to gratitude, self-expression, and emotional well-being.

From the moment students and staff stepped into the lobby of Wisma Greenhall, they were greeted by vibrant booths and interactive stations designed to spark positivity. A Gratitude Wall and Kindness Station encouraged participants to leave heartfelt notes and handprints on “The Giving Tree”, turning appreciation into a shared visual expression of thanks. At the Stress-Relief Corner, attendees exchanged compliments and unwound with therapeutic colouring, while a light-hearted video interview booth prompted reflections on simple joys with questions like, “If happiness were a food, what would it taste like?”

Day two welcomed special guests from Rajagiri College University, India, transforming the celebration into an international exchange of smiles and stories. Together, students and lecturers from both institutions participated in discussions about personal happiness, building connections that transcended borders and affirmed the universal value of emotional well-being.

This uplifting initiative reflects SEGi College Penang’s commitment to nurturing compassionate, emotionally resilient graduates by embedding mental wellness and community care into student life. According to the World Health Organization, mental health conditions affect one in seven 10–19-year-olds globally. Creating safe and joyful spaces like this directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

As the final group photo captured a sea of smiles, it was clear that International Happiness Day had become more than just an event—it was a reminder of the power of kindness, connection, and shared humanity. Through initiatives like this, SEGi continues to lead with heart, putting student happiness and holistic growth at the core of its mission.
