Why Women’s Health Awareness Is More Important Than Ever

SEGi took a bold step in championing women’s health and empowerment with the launch of the Supporting Her Empowerment (S.H.E.) Club and an exclusive talk on Women’s Wellness: Prevention, Health Maintenance, and Empowerment. Held on 28 February 2025, this impactful event, in collaboration with Bagan Specialist Centre, reinforced the importance of health awareness, preventive care, and a strong support network for women of all ages.

The S.H.E. Club is designed as a safe, inclusive, and empowering space, where women uplift one another through confidence-building, personal growth, and shared success. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 70% of health decisions in households worldwide are made by women, making health awareness and preventive care essential tools for empowering communities. This initiative aligns with global efforts to enhance women’s well-being, ensuring they have access to the right information, resources, and support systems.

A key highlight of the event was an insightful talk by Dr. Chuang Meei Chyi, a specialist from Bagan Specialist Centre, who provided expert guidance on women’s health, mental well-being, and preventative care. Studies by UN Women reveal that one in three women globally do not have access to adequate healthcare, making educational initiatives like these crucial in addressing health disparities and ensuring informed decision-making.

Beyond awareness, the event also fostered a sense of community and solidarity, creating an environment where women felt heard, supported, and empowered. Discussions covered critical issues such as reproductive health, mental resilience, and self-care, equipping attendees with knowledge that extends beyond personal well-being to the betterment of families and society at large. This initiative reflects the importance of Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) in ensuring women have the tools to lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.

By providing a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment, the S.H.E. Club is setting a new standard for women’s leadership and wellness advocacy within the campus community. This initiative also contributes to Gender Equality (SDG 5) by reinforcing the need for equal access to healthcare, education, and career opportunities. Through partnerships with healthcare institutions and industry experts, the programme also strengthens Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), ensuring that collective action drives long-term, meaningful impact.

SEGi College Penang remains committed to nurturing a holistic learning environment that prioritises not only academic excellence but also personal growth, health, and empowerment. The launch of the S.H.E. Club is a testament to the power of collective action, ensuring that women continue to inspire, support, and uplift one another in their journey towards success and well-being.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
• Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)
• Gender Equality (SDG 5)
