SEGi has taken a bold step in bridging academia and industry through a strategic collaboration with Kode Digital, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing student employability and industry relevance. This partnership provides students with hands-on exposure, technical expertise, and career opportunities, ensuring they graduate with the skills required in the evolving digital economy. As UI/UX design emerges as a key driver of technological innovation, this initiative aligns with global industry trends, preparing students for the high-demand field of digital experience design.
A highlight of this collaboration was an interactive UI/UX talk and workshop, where industry professionals from Kode Digital guided students through essential design principles, user interaction strategies, and best practices in digital product usability. With reports indicating that 94% of first impressions of a website are design-related, mastering UI/UX is now a critical skill for future tech professionals. This session equipped students with practical knowledge and insights into industry standards, ensuring they stay ahead in the competitive tech landscape.
Beyond workshops, SEGi has further strengthened industry engagement by sending IT students for industrial training with Kode Digital, following the MOU signing in August 2024. This real-world internship experience enables students to apply academic knowledge in live industry projects, refining their problem-solving abilities, workflow adaptability, and professional networking. According to the World Economic Forum, over 85 million jobs will be displaced by automation by 2025, but 97 million new digital roles will emerge, making industry-driven education crucial for future job readiness.
This initiative directly supports Quality Education (SDG 4) by integrating practical industry exposure into the academic curriculum, ensuring students develop skills aligned with market needs. It also advances Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) by fostering job-ready graduates, contributing to a skilled digital workforce. Additionally, by forging long-term industry partnerships, this collaboration strengthens Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), demonstrating the power of academia-industry alliances in driving technological progress.
As digital experiences continue to shape the global economy, UI/UX professionals are in high demand, with the industry expected to grow by 23% by 2030. SEGi College Penang remains committed to expanding its industry partnerships, ensuring that students graduate with cutting-edge knowledge, industry exposure, and the competitive edge needed for career success. By integrating theoretical learning with real-world application, this collaboration marks a major milestone in advancing industry-relevant education.
As the digital landscape evolves, SEGi continues to lead the way in producing future-ready graduates, equipping students with in-demand skills, innovative thinking, and professional experiences that prepare them to thrive in the tech industry. The collaboration with Kode Digital is just the beginning of a larger vision—to ensure that students do not just keep up with industry changes but drive them.
