On 23 and 24 October 2024, the International Borneo Innovation, Exhibition & Competition (IBIEC) 2024, held at Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, saw two exceptional students from SEGi, Khor Chin Zhe and Chia Teik Hua, take center stage with their innovative projects. This hybrid-format event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, the Department of Education, Polytechnics and Community Colleges, and the Polytechnic of Pontianak, Indonesia, created an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange and showcased high-impact ideas with commercialization potential.
Both Khor and Chia’s projects stood out in the competition, with their impressive ideas earning them spots among the Top 10 finalists in their respective categories. The students advanced to the second stage of the competition, a face-to-face pitching session where they showcased their work to industry experts and academics.
Khor Chin Zhe’s E-Library System, submitted under the Teaching and Learning, Education Technology, and Pedagogy category, aims to address common challenges faced by students and educators in accessing e-books and scholarly resources. This system is designed to enhance digital access to learning materials, contributing to a more efficient and inclusive educational environment.
Chia Teik Hua’s Self-Open Registration (SOR) System, presented in the ICT, Multimedia Safety, and Security category, aims to simplify the administrative challenges faced by academic institutions. By optimizing the registration process, this system improves financial transparency and enhances student engagement.
Both students’ groundbreaking projects earned them Silver Awards at IBIEC 2024, highlighting their creativity and dedication to innovation. Their success showcases SEGi College Penang’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting students in bringing impactful ideas to life.
