SEGi College Penang’s School of Computing & Information Technology (SOCIT) recently hosted a highly successful workshop focused on GIT, a crucial tool for modern coding practices. Held on 16 October 2024, the workshop aimed to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively utilise GIT for code management.
Led by the experienced Mr. Sathish Sarma Sathianarayanan, the workshop attracted a strong turnout of 32 enthusiastic students. The interactive session covered a comprehensive range of topics, including:
- Introduction to GIT: Students gained a solid understanding of the GIT platform, its core concepts, and its significance in the software development lifecycle.
- Code Management with GIT: Participants learned how to leverage GIT for version control, collaboration, and efficient code management. This included practical exercises on essential commands and workflows.
By focusing on these key areas, the workshop ensured that students left with a strong foundation in GIT, empowering them to:
- Enhance Collaboration: Effectively work on coding projects with teammates, minimising conflicts and maximising productivity.
- Improve Code Quality: Track changes, revert to previous versions, and maintain a clear history of their code development.
- Boost Employability: Gain a valuable skill highly sought after by employers in the tech industry.
This initiative is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically:
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
