The Department of Computing at SEGi College Penang proudly achieved another milestone after securing a Silver Award at the 15th International Invention, Innovation & Design Competition (INDES 2026), held at Universiti Teknologi MARA on 14 April 2026. Competing under Category B: Sustainability, the team impressed judges with their innovative healthcare project titled DonorLink.
The competition brought together talented participants from various institutions, with a total of 34 students competing in the category through a wide range of sustainability-driven innovations. Among the strong line-up of projects, SEGi College Penang’s DonorLink stood out for its practical impact, technological innovation, and relevance to current healthcare challenges.
The project team, led by Calvin Ng Wei Keong, together with Melvin Lee Cia Hwa, Kwok Tze Xuan, Cheong Kai Qi, and Stefani Ang, developed DonorLink as a smart mobile application designed to modernise and simplify the traditional blood donation management process.
DonorLink connects blood donors, hospitals, and blood banks through a centralised digital platform, creating a more efficient and accessible blood donation ecosystem. The application enables users to register as blood donors, receive urgent notifications during blood shortages, and locate nearby donation centres with ease.
The innovation was developed to address the ongoing issue of blood shortages while increasing public awareness and encouraging voluntary blood donations. By integrating technology into healthcare support systems, the platform enhances communication between donors and healthcare institutions, contributing towards faster response times and stronger community engagement.
The achievement reflects the students’ creativity, technical expertise, and commitment to developing meaningful solutions that positively impact society. Their success at INDES 2026 demonstrates the ability of SEGi College Penang students to compete at a high level while producing innovations that address real-world problems.
