The Allied Health and Nursing Club at SEGi College Kuala Lumpur recently organised a remarkable event called SONAHS Day. The event aimed to improve students’ leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while also providing career guidance. Students from the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Diploma in Medical Lab Technology, and Diploma in Nursing participated in the event, which was organised by Pritharshini, Jayatheswary, and Suganthi.
The SONAHS Day was divided into two sessions, beginning with an Alumni Talk from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Alif Asyraf Bin Mohd Saidi from Diploma in Medical Lab Technology and Jeremiah Gea Chong Wei from Diploma in Nursing, two prominent alumni, shared their internship experiences and current industry expectations with the students.
From 1 to 4 p.m., the event’s second session was the much-anticipated Treasure Hunt. The Treasure Hunt featured fun games like tongue twisters, arranging shapes, Charades, and the Everyday Scavenger Hunt, and was attended by five groups from the School of Nursing & Allied Health Science. The Treasure Hunt winners received attractive prizes, including hampers worth RM90 (1st place), RM70 (2nd place), and RM50 (3rd place) (3rd place).
The SONAHS Day was a huge success, drawing a large number of participants who took advantage of the event’s various activities. The primary goal of the event was to promote the students’ soft skills, and the statistics show that it was successful. According to the post-event survey, 80% of participants felt that the SONAHS Day had helped them improve their leadership and teamwork skills, and 70% felt more confident in their career paths after attending the event.
The success of SONAHS Day emphasises the importance of extracurricular activities in promoting students’ holistic development. Events like these help students gain confidence and equip them with the skills they need to succeed in their chosen careers. The organisers hope to hold similar events in the future to assist students in reaching their full potential.
