SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s future nurses learn from visit

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s Nursing students recently visited the Clinical Investigation Centre (CIC) of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). The purpose of the visit was to introduce the students to the working environment of the CIC and to give them a better understanding of how new medications are studied and processed.

Upon arrival, the students were welcomed and taken on a tour of the facility. The Head of Staff, Phan Chia Wei, gave them an introduction to the CIC, and encouraged them to continue to learn about the advancement of medicine and nursing.

Since its inception, the CIC has conducted more than six hundred clinical trials, and is currently working with more than three hundred investigators, including Principal Investigators, Sub-Investigators, and Study Coordinators for almost two hundred active trials. The organisation not only does trials for new medications but also for new medical machinery and technology.

The CIC also acts as a point of contact to access an integrated network of experienced clinical investigators, as well as providing a large pool of potential research subjects, including healthy volunteers from the institution. The roles of CIC encompass the provision of human resource, finance management, leasing with the Medical Ethics Committee, and other clinical services such as radiography, laboratory, and pharmacy.

The visit allowed the students to expand their knowledge of medicine and healthcare.
