SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s dedication to educating tomorrow’s consumers

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur (SCKL) made its mark on the national stage by actively participating in the ‘Mall Hunt’ event organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs during National Consumer Day 2023 (Hari Pengguna Kebangsaan 2023) from 28 to 31 July. This dynamic initiative, spearheaded by the Graduate School of Business (GSB) and the Faculty of Business, Accountancy, and Law (FOBAL), showcased the institution’s commitment to educating students about consumer rights and interests.

The Official Ceremony of National Consumer Day 2023, themed “Empowered Consumers, Prosperous Country,” was graced by His Excellency Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, at Piazza, Bukit Jalil Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. This year, Malaysia celebrated National Consumer Day in July, coinciding with the global observance of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) on 15 March.

The theme “Empowered Users” underscores the ministry’s primary objective: to empower consumers with knowledge of their rights and the confidence to assert them. It seeks to create a citizenry that is informed and vigilant about their consumer rights.

Dignitaries in attendance included YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Deputy Minister of KPDN (Prime Minister’s Office – Sabah Affairs, Sarawak & Special Tasks); YB Tuan Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital; YB Senator Puan Hajah Fuziah Salleh, Deputy Minister of KPDn; and YBhg Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, Chief Secretary of KPDN, along with senior officials from the Ministry.

The four-day’ Mall Hunt’ event proved to be an invaluable experience for participants. It was packed with informative activities that allowed students to make real-world observations and analyses on the economy, business management, and other essential aspects crucial for understanding consumers’ rights.

The event emphasised effective communication, teamwork, organisation, and management, providing a rare opportunity for young people to appreciate and protect their rights. Furthermore, it encouraged them to play vital roles in strengthening domestic trade through value creation, digitisation, and fostering rational consumers to enhance their quality of life.

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s business programs are meticulously designed to groom graduates who align with industry requirements, equipping them to perform effectively in their respective fields.

This remarkable National Consumer Day 2023 participation exemplifies SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to preparing students for active societal roles. It underscores the institution’s dedication to fostering well-informed and empowered consumers integral to the nation’s prosperity.
