On October 20, 2022, Psychology students from SEGI College Kuala Lumpur’s American Degree Programme and School of Education Programme went on a field trip to Julia Gabriel Centre, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, to interact with preschoolers aged 4 to 6-year-olds.
During the one-day field trip, the students had the opportunity to understand the basic developmental psychology theories and methods from a life-span perspective, bringing the textbook to reality. The field trip enabled the students to gain deeper insight into Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development.
The students acquired knowledge about scaffolding in Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development applied to guidance to fit the performance of the children. The students also explored the key concepts in developmental psychology within the areas of perceptual, motor, cognitive, social, and emotional development.
All students returned with amazement and experience. Some had clarity of their career pathway as they see themselves working well with children.
