Recently, SEGi College’s Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (HOTCA) Club organised the Iftar Takeaway @ SEGi in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadhan. The event took place on 7 April 2022 from 2 to 5 pm in front of the Mock Restaurant at SEGi College KL. The concept of the event was to sell the most popular and favourite food among Malaysians during the fasting month. The food items were chosen by the HOTCA club committee members after gathering feedback from SEGi College KL communities. Eventually, the chicken murtabak, roti jala, the Ramadhan dessert coconut jelly, and the drink sirap bandung cincau were on the hot menu of that day.
The main objectives of the event were to enhance and polish the students’ entrepreneurial skills, to strengthen the relationship between the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SOHTCA) and SEGi communities, to inculcate good values during the fasting month, and to raise the funds for HOTCA Club so that the students will be able to organise more events in the future.
The event went very well as all specialty food items were all sold out. This was a good platform to expose the students to develop business skills since they had to plan everything including costs, food preparation, developing sales skills, particularly in persuading and convincing people to buy especially to those unfamiliar with our local food. The students were awesome and worked together to prepare food that they had never cooked before.
This event has driven and inspired our students to organise more events in the future to create a fun, positive, and meaningful learning environment at SEGi College KL.
