Kuala Lumpur, 25 July 2026 – SEGi College Kuala Lumpur took a significant step towards promoting sustainability and enhancing campus life through the successful implementation of OASIS@SEGiKL, a student-led initiative aimed at transforming an underutilised backyard area into a vibrant green space for the college community.
The project was organised by the Keep Inspiring New Generation (KING) Club in collaboration with Slay the Future MPU3432/MPU2432 Group 1, bringing together students and staff in a shared effort to create a more sustainable and welcoming campus environment.
In preparation for the project, a donation booth was set up at the college lobby from 17 to 24 July 2026 to raise awareness and gather support for the initiative. The campaign received an encouraging response from the SEGi community, with approximately 60 donors, consisting mainly of students and staff, contributing more than RM750 towards the project. The funds collected were utilised to purchase plants, materials, and supplies needed for the construction of the living wall.
The initiative also received generous support through plant donations from several individuals. Mr Tony, Principal of SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, contributed five plants, while Mr Fazry, KING Club Advisor, donated another five plants. Student Lee Lai Fun further strengthened the effort by donating ten plants, demonstrating the collective commitment towards creating a greener campus.
On the event day, eight members from Slay the Future, together with members of KING Club and students from the School of Communication and Creative Design (SOCCD), worked hand in hand to bring the vision to life. The team prepared personalised plant tags, installed netting above the wall, hung living wall pouches, and assembled the eye-catching OASIS@SEGiKL signage made from recycled plastic bottles.
Once the structure was completed, the team carefully arranged and placed the plants into their designated pouches, transforming the once-empty backyard area into a refreshing green corner filled with life and colour. The incorporation of recycled materials throughout the project reinforced the initiative’s sustainability message while showcasing innovative ways to repurpose waste into meaningful campus features.
Beyond beautifying the physical environment, OASIS@SEGiKL serves as a testament to the positive impact of student-led initiatives. The project encourages environmental awareness, promotes sustainable practices, and provides students with a comfortable space to relax, socialise, and unwind between classes.
By turning a previously unused area into a thriving green space, OASIS@SEGiKL reflects the power of collaboration, creativity, and community spirit. The initiative stands as an inspiring example of how students and staff can work together to create lasting improvements that benefit both the campus environment and future generations of learners.
