Kuala Lumpur, 24–25 July 2026 – SEGi College Kuala Lumpur welcomed aspiring healthcare professionals to its engaging “A Nurse for an Hour” workshop, a hands-on educational programme designed to introduce school leavers to the essential skills and responsibilities of the nursing profession.
Held at the Mock Ward and Community Room on Level 7, the workshop provided participants with a unique opportunity to experience nursing practices through a series of interactive learning stations. Conducted over two days, the programme aimed to inspire interest in healthcare careers while offering practical exposure to real-world nursing procedures.
Participants rotated through four activity stations, each focusing on a fundamental aspect of patient care. During the Vital Signs Check session, participants learned how to measure blood pressure, temperature, and auscultate the apex heartbeat under the guidance of nursing facilitators. Working in pairs, they gained a better understanding of how healthcare professionals assess a patient’s condition.
The CPR Hero station introduced participants to life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques. Facilitators demonstrated the correct compression methods before participants practiced on mannequins, allowing them to develop confidence in responding to emergency situations.
At The Glucose Detective station, participants learned how blood glucose levels are monitored and interpreted. Through guided demonstrations, they gained insight into the importance of glucose monitoring in managing patient health and chronic conditions such as diabetes.
The workshop concluded with Tiny Patient, Big Impact, where participants explored newborn care practices. They learned how to properly hold, clean, and swaddle a newborn, as well as understand the care required for the umbilical cord. The activity provided valuable insight into the specialised skills required in maternal and neonatal nursing.
Throughout the programme, participants actively engaged with facilitators, asked questions, and experienced the practical side of nursing in a supportive learning environment. The workshop not only introduced fundamental healthcare skills but also highlighted the compassion, responsibility, and professionalism required in the nursing field.
By combining hands-on activities with real-world nursing scenarios, “A Nurse for an Hour” successfully provided school leavers with a meaningful glimpse into the healthcare profession.
