SEGi partners MTUC to UPSKILL & RESKILL laid-off employees

SEGi Group of Colleges partnered with MTUC to assist unemployed Malaysians during this pandemic. SGC signed an MOU with MTUC on 15th July 2020 in SEGi College Subang Jaya. This MOU is to provide career assistance and guidance in the form of soft skills training, professional certifications, and counselling services to the members of the public.

CROSSOVER was created by SGC during MCO to assist our nation with a sudden increase in unemployment due to Covid-19 pandemic. It’s one of a kind career assistance initiative to assist people from all walk of lives. The idea is to provide support by helping an unemployed individual to ‘CROSS’ over to the next step of employment. CROSS stands for Career Assessment, Resume Writing, Online Presence, Selling Yourself, and Skills Enhancement.

The CROSSOVER journey starts with the candidate’s profile being assessed by our dedicated career development centre professional. Followed by a resume writing workshop to enlighten the candidates and ensure the resume are industry-aligned. Participants will be exposed to the need of having a strong online presence and understanding the keys to market oneself during interviews. Skill enhancement will focus on equipping participants with industry-aligned skillsets. Candidates are also assisted further with placement support.

SGC and MTUC kickstarted their MOU by launching the first CROSSOVER program on 4th August 2020 in MTUC Building, Subang Jaya. The inaugural session was launched by Mr Jay Kumar, Vice President MTUC and Mr Anand Vijay Manicam, Head, Student Support Divison, SEGi Group of Colleges. The participants were individuals who had lost their employment due to the pandemic and they came from various

industries. The participants were trained and guided via structured CROSSOVER modules and training throughout the day.

The first session was kickstarted by Mr Anand Vijey Manicam who shared the art of writing an effective resume. Participants were taught the need of keeping their resume concise. This was followed with Mr Sathiyan who shared on the need of having a strong online presence in order to increase their employment opportunity. Multiple tips and methods were shared on the method to utilise social media and job portals to its fullest potential.

The method on how to market oneself effectively during an interview was headed by Mr Alex Koh. Interview tips such as unique selling proposition were highlighted during the session. Mr Li Chun Young ended the day with his session on Digital Marketing Essentials. Participants were shown the importance of enhancing their skills in the era of IR4.0.

Overall, participants were trained to understand the need to be well equipped throughout the job application journey. SGC will further assist by providing interview placement support by matching their qualifications with relevant opportunities.
