SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s Allied Health Science and Nursing Club recently organised an exciting educational visit to the Science Carnival at the National Institute of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM). This initiative was designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and expose students to cutting-edge advancements in biotechnology through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and expert talks. The visit highlighted the importance of real-world exposure in complementing textbook knowledge, giving students a unique opportunity to explore innovative biotechnological solutions shaping industries such as medicine, agriculture, and environmental science.
The carnival showcased some of the most exciting breakthroughs in biotechnology, including gene-editing technologies like CRISPR, advances in renewable biofuels, and lab-grown food products. Students had the rare opportunity to interact with scientists and innovators, who explained how these innovations are revolutionising global health and sustainability. In fact, the biotechnology industry is expected to grow by 7.7% annually, reaching over USD 2.44 trillion by 2028, reflecting the transformative potential of this field.
Workshops and expert talks were a key feature of the carnival, where industry leaders discussed the far-reaching impacts of biotechnology. From medical breakthroughs like personalised treatments to sustainable solutions for global food security, these discussions provided SEGi students with invaluable insights into how biotechnology is transforming the world. Attendees left the event with a deeper understanding of the industry and were inspired to explore new ideas for their future careers in health and science.
For SEGi students, the visit offered more than just academic enrichment—it ignited their passion for the future of biotechnology. By participating in this immersive learning experience, students were able to see the practical applications of their studies and understand how the industry aligns with global sustainability goals.
