At this year’s Valentine’s Day event, seven SOCAD students from SEGi KL gained valuable video production experience. The annual event features students, lecturers, and staff presenting their interpretations of the holiday on stage. The SOCAD students used the opportunity to show their short video, “Alaaa Din,” a humorous adaptation of Aladdin’s story.
Students learned the practical skills of filming, scheduling, and recording action during the production days, gaining insight into the complexities of video production. The experience provided them with resume-ready skills and portfolio pieces, better preparing them to achieve their career objectives.
The School of Creative Arts and Design at SEGi KL is dedicated to strengthening its ties with the industry. The school intends to provide students with practical experience outside of the classroom through production visits, industry talks, and participation in competitions and awards.
According to the Malaysian Digital Association, the digital creative industry in Malaysia is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14.3% from 2021 to 2026, resulting in more job opportunities for graduates in the creative industry. SOCAD students’ real-world experience will give them a competitive advantage in this expanding industry.
The SOCAD students’ short video production demonstrates SEGi KL’s commitment to providing real-world experience and valuable skills that prepare students for the future. They will gain more practical knowledge and develop their creative talents as they continue to produce short videos.
