The School of Communication & Creative Design (SOCAD) at SEGi College Kuala Lumpur recently hosted a potluck event that brought lecturers and students together for a fun-filled and memorable afternoon. The event, attended by 18 students from the School of Communication and Creative Design, had several goals, including holding the school’s annual meeting, forming a Photography club through elections, and strengthening the bond between lecturers and students.
The potluck event began at 11 a.m. and concluded at 1 p.m. with a speech from the program’s leader, Nor Azieannah. Following the opening speech, the students held an election to form the school’s first club. The event continued with lunch, during which everyone enjoyed each other’s special menu. Teachers also surprised students by hosting birthday parties for January and February babies. The students were overjoyed because they had never had such a party before.
The event also allowed lecturers to build trust and strengthen bonds with students by engaging in casual conversations about academic and non-academic topics. Students appreciated the effort to improve the social environment for everyone on campus.
This event brought many joys and good memories to SOCAD, particularly for the students who could celebrate birthdays and have fun while studying. These memories are expected to last long, and the school plans to hold similar events.
Student engagement is positively correlated with academic achievement, retention rates, and overall satisfaction with the college experience, according to the National Student Engagement Survey. As a result, events like this potluck can play an important role in increasing student engagement and improving academic outcomes.
SOCAD’s potluck event at SEGi College Kuala Lumpur was a success, and it created an environment in which students felt comfortable, engaged, and supported by the faculty. The event has set a precedent for other schools and institutions, emphasising the importance of students developing a sense of community and belonging in higher education.
