On 3 February 2025, students from SEGi College Kuala Lumpur embarked on an enriching journey into the world of bread-making at Gardenia, Selangor. The event, aptly titled “From Dough to Loaf: A Gardenia Experience,” offered participants a behind-the-scenes look at one of Malaysia’s most renowned bread manufacturers, unveiling the craftsmanship, dedication, and science behind every loaf.
The visit provided students with the unique opportunity to witness the entire bread-making process, from selecting premium ingredients to mixing, fermenting, shaping, baking, and packaging. The experience was designed to be both educational and interactive, allowing participants to appreciate the precision, quality control, and innovation that go into ensuring Gardenia’s products meet the highest standards of freshness and taste.
Participants also gained valuable insights into the food production industry, covering aspects such as food safety regulations, sustainable production practices, and quality assurance. By seeing automation and human expertise working in harmony, students left with a deeper understanding of the business and operational strategies that make Gardenia a household name in Malaysia.
Bridging Industry and Education
This initiative aligns with SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to hands-on learning, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world industry practices. Such industry visits provide students—especially those in business, food science, hospitality, and marketing—with a practical perspective on supply chain management, branding, and consumer expectations.
The “From Dough to Loaf” experience also underscores key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 4: Quality Education – Providing experiential learning opportunities that enhance students’ knowledge beyond the classroom.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Showcasing how automation, technology, and efficient supply chains contribute to sustainable production.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Highlighting the importance of sustainable sourcing and food waste reduction in manufacturing.
