Forget Flowers! Here’s How Students Redefined Valentine’s Day!

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur brought the spirit of love, appreciation, and inclusivity to life with Valentine’s Day: Love Is in the Air, an engaging three-day celebration held from 13 to 15 February 2025. Organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Creative Media and Film Club (CMFC), the event created a warm and festive atmosphere, encouraging students and staff to express their appreciation for friends, peers, and loved ones.

The event featured interactive and heartwarming activities, with the Love Tips Wall becoming a standout attraction. By the end of the event, the wall was filled with heartfelt messages, advice, and well-wishes, reinforcing a sense of belonging and positive community spirit. The song dedication booth added to the emotional connections, allowing attendees to share music as a meaningful way of expressing their feelings. The Valentine-themed backdrop provided a picture-perfect setting, where students and staff captured memorable moments of friendship and joy.

Beyond celebration, the event also served a greater purpose—raising funds for college activities through the sale of cheese tarts, a popular favourite among students. By blending fun with meaningful contributions, the initiative demonstrated the power of community-driven support, aligning with global efforts to foster inclusivity and shared experiences. Studies from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) indicate that social connection and student-led engagement enhance emotional well-being and campus cohesion.

Inclusivity was at the heart of the event, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or relationship status, felt valued and connected. Research from the Harvard Study of Adult Development has shown that strong relationships and a sense of community contribute significantly to overall happiness and mental well-being. Events like these reinforce the importance of fostering safe, inclusive spaces where students can express themselves freely.

By providing a platform to celebrate love in all its forms—friendship, gratitude, and kindness, this initiative aligned with global sustainability efforts to promote social inclusion and emotional well-being. As educational institutions play a key role in nurturing social intelligence and personal growth, events like Valentine’s Day: Love Is in the Air go beyond tradition, fostering a culture of appreciation and mutual respect.

SEGi continues to champion holistic student development, ensuring that learning extends beyond academics into personal growth, emotional well-being, and meaningful connections. With strong student participation and overwhelming positive feedback, this event proved that Valentine’s Day is not just about romance—it’s about building a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and celebrated.
