SEGi College Kuala Lumpur students demonstrated their commitment to sustainability and community engagement through a meaningful Hiking and Beach Cleaning programme held at Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, on 21 June 2026.
Organised under the Co-Curriculum Sustainability Thinking (PT-May 2026) initiative, the programme aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Led by programme mentor Mr. Vijayasekar, participants embarked on a scenic hike before carrying out a beach clean-up campaign aimed at promoting environmental awareness, civic responsibility, and sustainable living. The activity provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect with nature while actively contributing to the preservation of the local environment.
One of the highlights of the programme was the overwhelming spirit of teamwork displayed throughout the day. Participants collected nearly 50 kilograms of waste from the beach and surrounding areas. Transporting the heavy rubbish bags down the hiking trail required determination, resilience, and strong collaboration among team members, reinforcing important values such as perseverance, leadership, and shared responsibility.
The initiative also created a positive impact beyond the student participants. Members of the public, including families and children enjoying the beach, were inspired to join the clean-up efforts after witnessing the students’ dedication. This spontaneous community participation reflected the power of student-led initiatives in encouraging greater environmental consciousness and collective action.
Through activities such as these, SEGi College Kuala Lumpur continues to nurture socially responsible graduates who understand the importance of balancing personal development with community service and environmental stewardship. The programme not only enhanced participants’ physical well-being but also strengthened their appreciation for sustainability and civic engagement.
SEGi extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Vijayasekar for his leadership and guidance throughout the programme, as well as Ms. Gnasunthary for her invaluable support in ensuring the success of the event. Special thanks also go to all participating students whose enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork made the initiative a meaningful and impactful experience for both the campus community and the wider public.
As SEGi continues to champion experiential learning and sustainability-focused initiatives, programmes such as this serve as a reminder that small collective actions can create lasting positive change for the environment and society.
