Jonathan Yen, recent recipient of the Outstanding Best Student Award at SEGi College KL, began his creative journey at the young age of 15. Intrigued by his high school’s magazine and eager to see his own artwork published, he took the initiative to teach himself Photoshop. His dedication paid off, landing him a spot on the school’s graphic design team. This early experience, culminating in his role as department chief, ignited a passion for the collaborative and dynamic world of multimedia design.
“I loved the environment,” Jonathan recalls, describing his time leading photoshoots, designing magazine layouts, and mentoring his team. This passion led him to SEGi College KL, where he further honed his skills. He credits two particular courses with expanding his creative horizons: a photography project that delved into the technicalities of capturing the perfect image, and a 3D environment assignment that allowed him to explore the exciting realm of Blender and Unreal Engine.
Jonathan’s dedication to his craft is evident in his impressive 3.91 CGPA and recent award recognition. He attributes his academic success to the strong foundation he built in high school, where he viewed creative pursuits as more than just extracurricular activities. His advice to aspiring multimedia designers? “Take the opportunities to always learn something new. Explore and expand on your current arsenal of skills.”
Now a graduate, Jonathan’s sights are set on the world of 3D design. He’s fascinated by the possibilities of 3D modeling, animation, and the creation of immersive experiences. While he admits to being his own harshest critic – “My standards are always growing, but my skills are not there yet” – his passion for continuous improvement is a testament to his dedication.
Ultimately, Jonathan dreams of working for a renowned game company, contributing to the development of games that entertain and inspire. “My sense of making an impact in the world is just making people happy with what I do best,” he shares.
Beyond his creative drive, Jonathan reveals a side that many might not expect. He describes himself as someone who might seem initially reserved due to his anxiety, but once you get to know him, he’s a “chill person” who enjoys connecting with others. He lives by the motto, “If you’re not failing, you’re not trying hard enough,” embracing challenges and constantly pushing his boundaries.
As Jonathan Yen embarks on this exciting new chapter, he’s eager to delve deeper into the world of 3D creatives. With his talent, dedication, and unwavering pursuit of growth, there’s no doubt that he’ll leave his mark on the multimedia landscape.
