SEGi College Kuala Lumpur recently held an empowering workshop titled “GIT for Coding,” hosted by the School of Computing & Information Technology (SOCIT), providing 32 students with crucial insights into version control for code management. Conducted by experienced trainer Sathish Sarma Sathianarayanan, this hands-on workshop was designed to equip students with practical skills in GIT, an essential tool in today’s tech-driven world.
As coding and collaborative development become the backbone of digital transformation, knowledge of platforms like GIT is critical. According to a Stack Overflow survey, nearly 90% of developers rely on GIT for managing source code, making it a core skill for any aspiring programmer or developer. The workshop covered the fundamentals of GIT, enabling students to understand and apply version control, which is a valuable tool in professional development environments. SOCIT recognises the importance of equipping students with industry-relevant skills, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application.
SEGi’s commitment to integrating such practical skills aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9). By hosting workshops like these, SEGi continues to foster an environment where students gain relevant skills, contributing to Malaysia’s growing digital economy. With a talent pool equipped in emerging technologies, Malaysia is poised to advance in global innovation rankings, further aligning with SDG targets for sustainable industrial growth.
Participants had the chance to explore GIT’s capabilities for tracking changes, collaboration, and versioning, crucial in any coding project. Learning to use GIT not only makes coding efficient but also fosters a culture of collaboration and accountability, which are critical in both academic and professional settings. SEGi understands the significance of these skills in developing globally competitive graduates, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a tech-savvy workforce ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.
This workshop marks another step in SEGi’s journey to produce competent graduates who are well-versed in industry practices and tools. By providing students with a learning environment that reflects real-world demands, SEGi ensures that its graduates are industry-ready and aligned with global standards. SEGi’s approach to education emphasises both technical knowledge and the soft skills needed for collaboration, both of which are highly valued in the current job market.
The event was organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
