Where the Music Was Silent but the Message Was Loud

Over 120 students turned SEGi into a glowing celebration of movement, music, and mental wellness during the Silent & Glow Sports Night, the highlight of the student-led Level Up! campaign. The event held on 2 August 2025, transformed familiar sports into neon-lit, energy-filled experiences aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles and promoting mental well-being in a high-stress academic environment.

Organised by students from the Mass Communication programme, the campaign brought a fresh twist to campus life while championing Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. In an era where 1 in 7 young people globally struggle with mental health issues, the event was a creative and powerful response to the urgent need for balance between physical movement and emotional resilience.

SEGi University hosted a series of glow-in-the-dark activities including Glow Badminton, Glow Futsal, and Glow Volleyball — each designed not only to get students moving but also to foster joy and connection. One of the most anticipated experiences of the night was the silent disco, where students danced together while listening to music through wireless headphones. It was a moment of shared energy, made more impactful by its sensory novelty and inclusive environment.

The evening opened with a welcome address from Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Srikumar Chakravarthi, before launching into games, movement, and music. Project leader Swarrnraj described the event as “all about moving, connecting, and feeling better” — a sentiment that was echoed in the smiles, laughter, and high energy throughout the night. For many students, it was their first time experiencing a silent disco or glow sports, and the novelty created lasting impressions.

The event also highlighted the capacity of young people to lead impactful well-being initiatives when given the space and support to do so. Through teamwork, creativity, and peer-to-peer engagement, the student organisers turned a simple wellness campaign into an unforgettable campus-wide experience. It was a reminder that well-being doesn’t have to be serious to be effective — sometimes, it’s glowing and silent and fun.

This event is organised in support of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):
