The Music Ensemble, led by their music lecturer, Frederick Chaw, impressed the audience at the SEGi College Subang Jaya Chinese New Year Celebration on 31 January 2023. Following a few solo performances, the Ensemble performed two pieces with Chinese New Year themes. They had no idea they were also competing in the “SEGi College Subang Jaya Chinese New Year Open House Competition 2023!”
Three of the performers received cash awards. Loo Pei Lin, a BA (Hons) Early Years Education student, was named second runner up, while Choo Ming Er and Team were named first runner up. Ikhsan Muhammad Rizki, a solo cellist, was crowned champion.
The music group’s success did not end there. They were invited to perform again on 16 February at SEGi University in Kota Damansara for the SEGi University & Colleges’ Mission Networking Session 2023. The Ensemble received a last-minute request to perform the “Mission Impossible” theme in addition to their prepared pieces during the sound testing session. Despite the unexpected request, the students accepted the challenge and completed the piece in a matter of minutes before performing it an hour later.
The awards and accomplishments of the music team are a testament to the talent and dedication of the students and their conductor. These performances demonstrate their adaptability to new challenges and requests.
SEGi College Subang Jaya’s recognition of the music team’s talent and their invitations to perform highlight the importance of supporting arts education and providing opportunities for students to showcase their skills and abilities. Congratulations to the award-winning music team and their conductor, Frederick Chaw, for their impressive performances and ability to take on challenges with grace and skill.
