The Faculty of Creative Arts and Design is conducting a two-week Info Week on its programmes 13 June to 24 June 2022. An Interior-Architecture talk was conducted on Tuesday 14 June 2022 entitled ‘The Power of Space’, conducted by Ms Marliana Manor, the Subject Expert and Programme Leader in the faculty. The talk highlighted topics related to adaptive reuse.
The talk was an eye-opener for the audience to see potential in Interior Architecture where space can be designed to create new functions for both the building owners and community. In her talk session, she showed many excellent projects of adaptive reuse designed by Seksan Design, L45 Community Library in Bangsar and Sekeping Kong Heng in Ipoh.
The L45 Community Library is a library that shared among members of the student housing located in the Lucky Garden residential area, Bangsar. Another project done by the same design firm is Sekeping Kong Heng, which is one of the Sekeping Retreat series. It is an old classical building turned into minimalist homestay. Both projects display sustainable concepts with natural lighting, landscaping, and good ventilation. Another project highlighted was the REXKL project, the old REX Cinema in Petaling Street that had been converted to a cultural multi-spatial centre designed by architects Shin Chang and Shin Tseng, co-founders of the REXKL initiative.
During the talk, the audience were told about the career path in Interior Architecture and how to get professional license as an Interior Designer or an Architect. Pursuing a Diploma in Interior Architecture in SEGi College Subang Jaya, students will be expertly guided and will benefit from further engagement from industry via our work-based learning curriculum.
