SEGi College Subang Jaya recently facilitated an enlightening visit to the Next Chapter Counselling Centre on 21st March 2024, aligning with the institution’s commitment to providing students with real-world exposure and career insights in the field of mental health. The event, attended by 22 eager students, offered a comprehensive introduction to the mental health helping profession, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4: Quality Education).
The visit was led by Wan Mun Chian, a lecturer at SEGi College, who ensured that the programme met its objectives by inviting professionals from various disciplines, including a clinical psychologist, a counsellor, and a hypnotherapist. These experts engaged students in meaningful discussions, debunked common misconceptions about mental health careers, and provided a glimpse into their working environment through a tour of the centre.
The highlight of the day was the career aptitude test, which provided students with a detailed report on their potential career paths within the mental health sector. This interactive approach not only deepened the students’ understanding but also aligned with SEGi’s mission to offer holistic and practical education that prepares students for real-world challenges.
The event ran smoothly, starting on time and without any interruptions, reflecting SEGi’s commitment to excellence in programme execution. The positive feedback from the students underscores the success of the event, with suggestions to incorporate more interactive activities in future sessions to further engage participants.
