SEGi College Subang Jaya’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SoHTM) recently organised an insightful industry visit to The RuMa Kuala Lumpur, a luxury boutique hotel, on 23rd July 2024. This visit was part of SEGi’s ongoing commitment to providing students with real-world exposure that complements their academic learning, directly aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
The event saw 18 participants, including students and lecturers, who were given an exclusive tour of the hotel’s operations. From the intricacies of front desk management to the behind-the-scenes workings of the housekeeping and guest services departments, students understood how technology and sustainability intersect in delivering exceptional guest experiences. The visit highlighted the critical role of team coordination and environmental practices in the hospitality industry, offering students practical insights into potential career paths.
Moreover, the visit fostered discussions on future collaborations between SEGi and The RuMa, exploring possibilities such as internships, workshops, and joint events. These potential partnerships aim to provide students with hands-on experience while offering the hotel fresh perspectives and support from emerging talent.
Despite minor transportation challenges, the event was a resounding success, achieving its objectives and leaving a lasting impact on the participants. The interaction with industry professionals and the exposure to real-world operations greatly enhanced the students’ understanding of the hospitality sector, reinforcing SEGi’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application.
