In a stellar display of academic prowess and industry collaboration, SEGi hosted the Industrial Engagement Open Day on 22 July 2023. This event not only provided a unique platform for students to gain real-world exposure in Early Childhood Education but also showcased SEGi’s commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry.
The focus of this year’s event was on Early Childhood Curriculum Approaches, where students were tasked with presenting various curriculum types in Early Childhood Education. The vibrant atmosphere buzzed with creativity as our dedicated Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) students meticulously prepared a poster highlighting the “Play-Based Approach” and the “Montessori Approach.”
The significance of this engagement was underscored by the active participation of SEGi’s prominent industry partners from Malaysia and Singapore. Our DECE students presented their posters, engaging in meaningful discussions with industry experts, gaining insights into the expectations of the Early Childhood industry.
This hands-on experience not only allowed students to apply their theoretical learning to practical situations but also provided a valuable opportunity to understand the industry’s dynamics. The event served as a bridge, connecting the classroom to the real-world Early Childhood industry.
Miss Lee, a DECE student at SEGi, expressed her enthusiasm about the Industrial Engagement Open Day. “Being part of this event has opened my eyes to the real challenges and opportunities in the Early Childhood Education field. Presenting our posters to industry professionals not only boosted my confidence but also made me realise the impact of our theoretical knowledge in shaping practical solutions for young learners.”
The collaborative effort between students and staff from different SEGi campuses showcased the power of teamwork and dedication. The event successfully met its objective of providing students with career exploration and hands-on learning experiences.
Notably, the Industrial Engagement Open Day allowed DECE students to connect their theoretical understanding of early childhood curriculum approaches with the practices of different preschools. Interacting with industry partners exposed them to diverse cultures and backgrounds, fostering a global perspective. It also reinforcing its reputation as a leading institution in shaping the future of education.
The Industrial Engagement Open Day 2023 was not just an event; it was a transformative learning experience for DECE students.
