SEGi College was recently thrilled to welcome the Partnership and Sales Manager of HEI School, Finland, Mr Heikki Vartia, back to Malaysia. Finland is reputed to have one of the best educational systems in the world. Helsinki International Schools (HEI Schools) was co-founded by the University of Helsinki and experienced educational and design experts in 2016. Their curriculum is built on the proven Finnish education system and their Nordic heritage of high-quality everyday design and the principles of openness and accessibility. Their educational products range from teacher training, learning-environment design, learning materials and school licensing.
SEGi College is proud to have signed an MoU with HEI Schools to offer the Dual Award Diploma in Early Childhood Education. This is the first partnership SEGi has entered with a Finnish educational institution. SEGi has long been recognised as a premier leader in early-childhood teacher training, for championing professionalism in the industry since 1999.
During his recent visit, Mr Vartia was taken by SEGi College Subang Jaya’s Faculty of Music, Psychology, and Education lecturers to visit various preschools around the Klang Valley, namely Talent Kindergarten, Kidoasis, and Polaris/Eduwis Education. This was Mr Vartia’s first visit to Malaysia since the MoU signing with SEGi College in 2021. Apart from touring these schools, all the abovementioned parties, including Mr Vartia, exchanged presentations on their school curriculum models and philosophies.
Later on, SEGi College Subang Jaya hosted a special HEI School training session called “Family Engagement and Parent Collaboration” by special arrangement with HEI Schools Finland for owners of kindergartens, Bachelor of Arts in Early Years Education graduating students, and students currently enrolled in the HEI School short course.
This was a nine-hour course held over three days under the auspices of HEI Schools Finland. The three sessions were entitled “Principles of Family Engagement in Finnish ECCE”, “Practices of Family Engagement in Finnish ECCE”, and “Practical Tips and Examples from the HEI Schools Pedagogy and Framework”. The trainers of this special training session were Ms Kaisu Peltopera (a PhD Researcher from the University of Jyvaskyla) and Ms Mervi Turpeinen (a Pedagogical Manager from the HEI Schools).
The participants shared that the session was very insightful, especially the practical strategies on family engagement and partnership, which made the content even more relevant and relatable to the audience.
SEGi College looks forward to conducting more of such educational activities with HEI Schools Finland for the benefit of our students and our local educational institutions.
