A simple hi can make your day blossom. There is magic in good manners, it doesn’t only make people at the receiving end feels good, it also brightens up the mood of the one giving – it is contagious. People, in general, should be kind that others will like and respect. Good manners show the best in you and encourage others to be the best version of them.
Here’re 3 reasons why good manners are essential not only in the hospitality industry but generally in life:
#1: It makes good impressions
Ever heard of the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover”? While we are all taught to not jump to conclusions about people at the first glance, researchers suggest that an impression is formed within 7 seconds when you met someone new. In 7 seconds, people “decide” whether you’re trustworthy, competent, extroverted and etc. While it’s impossible to make everyone like you, having good manners certainly gives you an edge in leaving a strong and positive impression.
#2: It boosts your confidence
Understanding manners and etiquette gives you an “SOP” of what and how to behave in any situation. Whether if it is a job interview, meeting a new friend, chatting with an elderly, good manners and etiquette helps calm your nervous mind knowing that you’re carrying yourself well.
#3: It is contagious
Life is a mirror, it often reflects what we project onto it. Treat others around you with kindness, smile and give others a helping hand. You’d be surprised how easy it will reciprocate.
Do remember, “Good manners reflect something from the inside and innate sense of consideration for others and respect for self”.
