At SEGi College Subang Jaya, it is important that students are prepared for the future. For this, we work closely with our industry partners. For instance, the early childhood team recently collaborated with Eduwis. Eduwis has been in the early childhood industry since 1987 and presently there are 60 Eduwis centres nationwide. Eduwis has earned many awards including the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2013 & 2014, Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2014 and Baby Talk Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.
As part of our collaborative efforts, on 7 September, Eva Tee, Director of Eduwis Sdn Bhd delivered a zoom presentation for our early childhood students. The 90-minute session covered extensively the 101s of starting a preschool, giving the students realistic expectations when embarking on a venture like this. The session explored 12 aspects for consideration prior to setting up a preschool – from selecting the right programme or approach to managing operational procedures such as licensing, hiring and training.
A month later on 3 October, Ms Carolyn Choo, the Head of the Faculty of Music, Education and Psychology was part of the Eduwis monthly teacher training programme. Ms Choo spoke on the topic “Mindset for the 21st Century Preschool Educator”, impressing upon the 150 teachers the need to cultivate the growth mindset and sharing strategies on how this mindset could be fostered.
Both sessions were well-received with participants asking questions, showing their interest in topics shared. It is always fruitful when academia shares current research with practitioners, and likewise when practitioners present industry realities to our students. We look forward to more collaborative activities with Eduwis.
