SEGi College Subang Jaya’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (FoEEBIT) treated its students to an exciting, interactive learning experience at IKEA Kota Damansara. Organised by FoEEBIT’s Chairperson, Pua Meng Chin, the event provided 17 students, including one lecturer, with the opportunity to undertake additional project tasks, make visual observations, take notes, and gain hands-on learning experience.
The primary goal of the event was to promote greater understanding of furniture measurement, a vital aspect of engineering, built environment, and information technology. Through first-hand exposure to IKEA’s extensive furniture range, students were able to explore the practical applications of their theoretical knowledge. According to a recent study by the Education Advisory Board, this type of experiential learning enhances student engagement and retention, resulting in improved learning outcomes.
Beyond the academic benefits, the IKEA event was also an excellent opportunity for students to build valuable connections with their peers and lecturers. Networking is a crucial aspect of university life, and this event was an excellent chance for students to forge meaningful relationships. According to a survey by LinkedIn, a staggering 85% of jobs are filled through networking.
FoEEBIT’s IKEA event was an outstanding success, providing students with an exciting and practical learning experience. As universities around the world continue to adapt to new challenges, events like this demonstrate the importance of innovation, creativity, and engagement in higher education.
