SEGi Strengthens Student Integration Through Principal’s Open-Door Session

In a heartwarming display of dedication to student welfare, Associate Professor Dr. Irene Tan, Principal of SEGi College Subang Jaya, held an informal “Meet and Greet” session with international students on 24 October. Taking time out of her busy schedule, Dr. Irene Tan created a relaxed and welcoming environment for students to share their experiences and concerns.

The session, held from 3pm to 4pm, saw students and the principal seated in a circle, fostering a sense of openness and camaraderie. This casual setting encouraged students to comfortably voice any challenges they were facing in their new environment.

Dr.  Irene Tan, known for her approachable demeanour and genuine care for her students, actively listened to their concerns and offered advice and encouragement. She emphasised the importance of immersing themselves in Malaysian culture and interacting with local students to truly enrich their time at SEGi.

“Experiencing the local culture and building friendships with Malaysian students will not only enhance your academic journey but also create lasting memories,” Dr. Irene Tan shared with the students.

Adding to the excitement, the session also included discussions about future plans for an International Cultural Night, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their diverse cultures and cuisines. This event promises to be a vibrant celebration of SEGi’s international community, fostering greater understanding and appreciation among students from different backgrounds.

In a separate remark, Dr. Irene Tan highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion, stating, “Diversity and inclusion are very important to every human being on earth because the world is smaller than you think.”

This ‘Meet and Greet’ session is just one example of how SEGi College Subang Jaya actively fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for its diverse student body. Dr. Irene Tan’s personal involvement underscores the college’s dedication to ensuring international students enjoy a smooth transition and positive experience in Malaysia.
