8 reasons to start your college degree now!

“Aiyoh, COVID-19 now, maybe I should wait for this to end then only start my college degree lah… ” Sounds familiar? While the government has allowed Colleges and Universities to resume their intakes, many parents and students are still contemplating whether to start now or wait for later… Here are 8 reasons why we think NOW is the best time to start:

  1. How you do anything, is how you do everything… Mr Anand Vijey, SEGi College Subang Jaya Head, Student Support Division, always says “In life, don’t just follow the flow, create your own flow”. When the people around you are procrastinating and contemplating, you should be the first to take action! Winners don’t succumb to their circumstances. If you don’t start to develop a winner’s mindset, think about where else in your life that you’re not thinking like a winner.
  2. Time passed is time wasted. It’s July now, and you may be thinking, let’s wait until August, it’s just another month, right? WRONG! What many don’t realize is when they wait another month, they forget the previous months that they’ve waited. Your SPM result was released in March, since then 5 months have passed – what can happen in 5 months you asked? Well, a FULL SEMESTER.
  3. Strict SOPs implemented in colleges and universities. The government has developed strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for colleges to follow, precautions like social distancing, frequent disinfection and mandatory temperature screening is the new norm now to keep students and staff as safe as possible (by the way, check out our latest facial detection temperature machine >>here<<).
  4. Lesser distractions and easier to cope. The toughest semester for college and university students are usually the first semester where students have to learn to adapt and cope with new standards (for example, writing assignments), with the RMCO in place now, you’ll have more free time at home to focus on your coursework – which brings us to the next point…
  5. Strong online academic support. Did you know that since the implementation of MCO, all new intake students in SEGi College Subang Jaya are put in a WhatsApp group with their lecturers and faculty staff so that we can support you 24/7? That’s right, you actually get even better support from the college during this period.
  6. Take-home exams. Yes, you read it right, take-home exams. In adapting to the new norm, examinations are moved online, our students now go through online open-book exams that allow both the lecturers and students more flexibility in assessing their learnings. Do you prefer open book tests? This is the best time for you to study!
  7. Have FUN! Ok, here’s one for the party kaki out there … No doubt, there are lesser parties around with the Pandemic, but that does not stop our students from having fun. Physical events are not encouraged but online events and parties are 100% do-able! Just like this recent Movement Celebration Order (MCO) that our School of Communication students did with Harith Iskander, yes, you read it right – HARITH ISKANDER! (>>watch here<<).
  8. How long more you want to wait? Like it or not, until the vaccine is developed, the Covid-19 pandemic will live with us for a long time. Your future should not be put on hold because of your fears. Until the vaccine is developed, we need to learn to live with the virus and not fear it.
