{"id":19959,"date":"2022-12-25T12:00:52","date_gmt":"2022-12-25T04:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/colleges.segi.edu.my\/subangjaya\/?p=19959"},"modified":"2023-06-06T09:46:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-06T01:46:34","slug":"scsj-students-brought-joy-and-happiness-to-the-refugee-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/colleges.segi.edu.my\/subangjaya\/scsj-students-brought-joy-and-happiness-to-the-refugee-community\/","title":{"rendered":"SCSJ students brought joy and happiness to the refugee community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEGi College Subang Jaya\u2019s Community Service students under the School of MPU &amp; Language have organised a \u201cShape of Happiness\u201d, an orphanage visitation event on 22 October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Our students have collaborated with The Peace Education Centre (T-PEC), a non-profit, Myanmarese refugee community learning centre based in Kuala Lumpur. The purposes of this event are to foster a sense of belonging and togetherness among the children and the community and to encourage children&#8217;s participation which leads to the development of specific soft skills through activities. Our students also wanted to create a memorable moment with the children through activities that bring value. The event was participated by 41 participants, including children from the age of 5 to 17 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The overall event was divided into four sessions: Introduction of the team members, Paper Mache Making Session, Target Practice Session, and Draw and Sing Games. This event provides opportunities for these children to showcase their talents by making their crafts, target practice, and singing. The children were encouraged and praised by the team members, which led to boosting the children\u2019s confidence and self-esteem for participation throughout the event.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the event, a token of appreciation was given to the home director, Julian Cangmah, for providing the space for our students to have such an unforgettable memory with the children, as well as snacks for the children to enjoy. Our students also had an interview session with the director to further understand the centre&#8217;s roles, as it is crucial for us to know how our students could further contribute and collaborate with them. Their efforts paid off after seeing the happiness and warmth on the children\u2019s faces.<\/p>\n<p>The responsibilities of helping children become their better selves are limited to key workers from the orphanage, government, and the community. We can always give back to the community in various ways.
