Esteemed Colleagues

Distinguished Guests, students, ladies, and gentlemen who are with us live physically here or connecting virtually from 3 of our sister campuses in Penang, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.

A very good morning and Salam Sejahtera,

  1. On behalf of the SEGi Group of Colleges, I am delighted to announce the addition of realme to our consortium of diverse and robust industry partners. I believe I speak for everyone at SEGi when I say today’s signing ceremony with realme – one of the top players in the middle ranged mobile phone production companies; it is certainly an exciting and significant event for us.
  2. As you might have already known, one of SEGi Group of Colleges’ driving pillars is Industry-Driven Curriculum as we strive to produce industry-relevant graduates. To produce industry-relevant graduates, we focus on a student-centred environment where students are provided with opportunities to interact and work with industry partners on their assignments and projects and have access to advanced laboratories and workshops with essential tools to develop their skills.
  3. Hence, together with each of our partners, we seek to bring the industry into the classroom by providing our students with real-life industry projects and assignments to transition into the industry as seamless as possible.
  4. SEGi’s collaboration with realme will see realme’s experiences and expertise incorporated into our curriculum. For instance, realme will be working together with our Faculty of Business to provide actual industry inputs for subjects such as Personal Selling and Consumer Behaviour.
  5. As SEGi moves towards Industrial Revolution 4.0, or fondly known as IR 4.0, it is a privilege for us to have realme showcase products incorporated with the Internet of Things as an actual application to raise further awareness of the importance of IR 4.0.
  6. Additionally, we also look forward to inter-organisational visits, joint research, and industry placements together with practical training for our students.
  7. At SEGi, we believe that ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. With this in mind, we seek to provide a holistic student experience to ensure that the graduates we produce are industry-relevant and sufficiently groomed with the appropriate soft skills. Hence, on a more fun note – realme will also play a role in training our students to be realme’s ambassadors and co-organise events such as e-sports tournaments like the King of Glory Esports Tournament in May 2021.
  8. Not only that, but SEGi is also very excited to be the very first to receive vending machines for realme products on our campuses.
  9. I read on realme’s website that the brand’s DNA is Young, Real, Stylish, Outstanding. As the CEO at SEGi Group of Colleges, I believe that we have selected the right partner with realme. Our vision is to produce graduates who are truly capable academically and outstanding in their personality and attitude. Having said this, we are also looking to organise corporate social responsibility activities with realme.
  10. Why is the initiative to bring the industry into the classroom important to SEGi?
  11. According to a Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Employer Insights Report, published in September 2020, which surveyed 13,000 employers worldwide, it highlights that the essential priority for recruiting new graduates is ‘professional experience’ followed by ‘target discipline.’
  12. This suggests that employers are more likely to hire graduates who have been exposed to a real work environment, mainly when that experience is relevant to their areas of study.
  13. Needless to say that today’s collaboration is timely for us as educators because we play an important role in equipping our future generations with the essential skills needed to excel in their careers and their lives.
  14. I would like to take this opportunity to thank realme once again for coming together with us to make this collaboration possible. It is truly an honour.
  15. With that, ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much.
