On 21 January 2022, a group of thirty students and two lecturers from SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s Faculty of Allied Health visited the Anatomy and Pathology Museum located at the Faculty of Medicines and Health Science (FMHS), University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The majority of the students will be taking the subject Anatomy and Physiology in the Allied Health Sciences Diploma and certificate programmes. The purpose of this visit was to show the students real anatomical models and to help them begin to understand the process of organ preservation.<\/p>\n

The students were divided into three groups, each led by a staff member of the museum. The students learned that there are eleven human body systems, namely respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, integumentary, urinary, reproductive, nervous, sensory, gastrointestinal, muscular and skeletal. Each system is divided into two sections. The first section is anatomy and physiology, which focuses on the structure and functions of the organs, while the second section is pathology, which emphasises the diseases related to each particular system. All organs on display are real specimens, so the students were not allowed to take any photographs.<\/p>\n

The staff explained the details section by section. Both lecturers also answered the students\u2019 questions during the visit. By observing the real organs displayed, the students were given a clearer view on of the structure of human organs.<\/p>\n

The lasted about two hours. After visiting each section, the students and lecturers gathered at the main entrance for a group photo. The Programme Leader presented a souvenir to the Head of \u00a0Anatomy and Pathology Museum as a token of our appreciation for the visit.<\/p>\n

Educational field trips such as this sparks the interest of students. All the students gave positive feedback on the trip. The Faculty of Allied Health and the Allied Health Club will continue to organise interesting study trips accommodate the needs of each programme.<\/p>\n
