Healthcare systems depend on many professionals, but nurses remain at the heart of patient care. From hospitals and clinics to community health settings, they are often the first point of contact, the constant source of support, and a vital link in the delivery of quality healthcare. As demand for healthcare services continues to rise, so does the need for skilled and compassionate nurses.<\/p>\n

Recognising this growing need, SEGi College Sarawak has reintroduced its Diploma in Nursing programme, creating new opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals while contributing to the development of a stronger healthcare workforce for Sarawak and Malaysia.<\/p>\n

The programme returns at a crucial time for the healthcare sector. Recent reports indicate that Malaysia faces a shortage of more than 14,700 nurses nationwide, while Sarawak alone requires approximately 2,300 additional nurses to support healthcare facilities across the state. Factors such as an ageing population, increasing chronic health conditions, and expanding healthcare demands continue to place pressure on healthcare providers and services.<\/p>\n

To help address this challenge, the Malaysian Board of Nursing has broadened the entry requirements for the 2026 intake. Students with a minimum of three SPM credits, including Mathematics and Science, together with a pass in English, are now eligible to pursue the Diploma in Nursing. The move reflects a national effort to make nursing education more accessible and encourage more young Malaysians to consider careers in healthcare.<\/p>\n

For SEGi College Sarawak, the return of the programme builds on a longstanding legacy in nursing education. As one of the early providers of nursing training in Sarawak, the institution has produced close to 400 nursing graduates over the years, many of whom have gone on to serve in healthcare facilities throughout the region.<\/p>\n

The Diploma in Nursing is a three-year full-time programme designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice and registration in Malaysia. Through a combination of academic study, clinical training, and practical learning experiences, students develop the knowledge, technical competencies, and professional skills required to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care.<\/p>\n

Beyond clinical expertise, the programme places emphasis on communication, critical thinking, professionalism, and ethical practice. Students are trained not only to perform healthcare procedures competently, but also to provide reassurance, advocacy, and compassionate care to individuals and communities.<\/p>\n

The launch event also featured sharing sessions by experienced nursing professionals from the Endoscopy Unit of Hospital Umum Sarawak, who highlighted the evolving demands of modern nursing and the important role nurses play throughout the patient journey. Their insights provided prospective students with a realistic understanding of the profession and the opportunities available within the healthcare sector.<\/p>\n

As healthcare continues to evolve, nursing remains one of the most respected, meaningful, and in-demand professions. For individuals seeking a career that combines purpose, stability, lifelong learning, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people\u2019s lives, nursing offers a pathway filled with both challenge and reward.<\/p>\n
