Students recently participated in an educational hiking trip to the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre in Bau, Sarawak, gaining a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of nature, history, and cultural heritage. The activity provided students with experiential learning beyond the classroom, encouraging them to appreciate both environmental conservation and the rich traditions of the local community.<\/p>\n

Located on a hilltop surrounded by lush rainforest, Bung Bratak Heritage Centre is recognised as one of the earliest settlement sites of the Jagoi Bidayuh community. The hiking activity offered students not only a physical challenge but also an opportunity to connect with Sarawak\u2019s cultural roots and natural environment.<\/p>\n

The journey began at the foothill, where students were greeted by the serene beauty of the surrounding forest. As they ascended the well maintained trail, the sounds of birds and rustling leaves created a calm and refreshing atmosphere. The route consists of wooden staircases and forest paths that are accessible yet moderately challenging, allowing students to experience the natural landscape while engaging in healthy physical activity.<\/p>\n

Along the way, students observed the diverse flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest, gaining greater appreciation for the ecological richness of the region. The hike encouraged students to slow down, observe their surroundings, and reflect on the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n

Upon reaching the summit, students explored the historic Bung Bratak site, where traditional structures and informational displays provide insight into the history, migration, and cultural practices of the Jagoi Bidayuh people. The hilltop also offers a panoramic view overlooking Bau town and the surrounding greenery, making the journey both educational and rewarding.<\/p>\n

Through this experience, students were able to reflect on the relationship between heritage preservation, environmental sustainability, and community identity. The activity highlighted the importance of safeguarding historical landmarks while promoting responsible interaction with nature.<\/p>\n
