SEGi is equipping its students with the skills and vision to thrive in the digital economy by engaging them in industry events that bridge academic learning with real-world innovation. On 5 July 2025, a group of IT students and lecturers attended the Sarawak Career & Training (S-CaT) Fair at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, gaining invaluable insights into one of the fair\u2019s most anticipated highlights \u2014 the first-ever Sarawak Blockchain & Crypto Day (SBCD25).<\/p>\n

For the students from SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s Diploma in Information Technology programme, the event provided more than just exposure; it was an immersion into a future where blockchain and cryptocurrency are projected to transform industries. The World Economic Forum predicts that 10% of global GDP will be stored on blockchain by 2027. The visit therefore aligns with SEGi\u2019s mission of preparing graduates not just for today\u2019s jobs, but for tomorrow\u2019s digital economy.<\/p>\n

Students and lecturers explored blockchain applications beyond cryptocurrency, interacting with industry leaders, experimenting with hardware wallets, and discovering use cases in finance, supply chains, and digital identity. With Malaysia\u2019s digital economy expected to contribute 25.5% to GDP by 2025, such initiatives ensure that SEGi students are part of the country\u2019s push to remain competitive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.<\/p>\n

Feedback from participants highlighted both enthusiasm and pragmatic awareness. One student reflected, \u201cIt was eye-opening to see how blockchain can be applied beyond cryptocurrency. It made me think seriously about specialising in this field.\u201d Another pointed out the challenge of costs when experimenting with crypto, but also noted the motivation to explore free learning resources first. These perspectives underscore how the visit sparked genuine interest while cultivating critical thinking about opportunities and challenges in the blockchain space.<\/p>\n

The engagement with experts and innovators reinforced classroom theory with real-world context, strengthening students\u2019 understanding of the digital economy and enhancing their career readiness. It also expanded their professional networks, an important advantage in industries where collaboration and innovation drive progress.<\/p>\n

Such initiatives demonstrate why SEGi invests in industry immersion: to empower students with global perspectives, nurture innovation-driven graduates, and ensure they are prepared to meet evolving market demands. By embedding exposure to emerging technologies within its academic journey, SEGi continues to play a leading role in shaping Malaysia\u2019s future workforce.<\/p>\n
