On 24 July 2025, 40 students and five academic staff from SEGi participated in an exclusive academic visit to the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak), as part of their Business Ethics and Principles of Management courses. The programme was more than a tour \u2014 it was a deep dive into the inner workings of governance, designed to inspire ethical leadership among future professionals.<\/p>\n

In a time where ethical clarity and civic accountability are essential for nation-building, such experiences help shape students\u2019 understanding of how policies are formed, debated, and upheld. With corruption cited as a barrier to progress in many developing nations, nurturing governance literacy at the undergraduate level has become a global educational priority. According to Transparency International, over 70% of young people worldwide say they want to learn more about how to fight corruption and promote integrity.<\/p>\n

SEGi College Sarawak organised this visit to help students witness governance in action within one of Malaysia\u2019s most unique and autonomous states. From understanding seating hierarchies and ceremonial procedures to observing the architecture of law-making chambers, the visit made visible the ethical and procedural foundations that support public administration in Sarawak.<\/p>\n

The engagement was not passive. Students posed meaningful questions on legislative ethics, state accountability, and political integrity \u2014 reflecting their ability to connect classroom theory with the real-world complexities of governance. This form of experiential learning is vital to developing responsible graduates who can apply ethical frameworks in corporate, public, or policy-driven environments.<\/p>\n

For Sarawakian students in particular, stepping inside the state\u2019s legislative heart carried profound emotional and civic significance. It instilled a sense of ownership over their future and a deeper connection to Sarawak\u2019s sociopolitical landscape. Understanding governance from within nurtures more than academic understanding \u2014 it fosters responsible citizenship and long-term commitment to the region\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

As part of SEGi College Sarawak\u2019s broader educational mission, the visit demonstrated the institution\u2019s emphasis on developing socially aware, ethically grounded graduates. By bridging the gap between theoretical models and institutional realities, the programme empowered students to see themselves as future leaders \u2014 not just in business, but in society.<\/p>\n
